Design and Make Activities
Designing and Making Windmills
First Class were learning all about renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. They created a source of renewable energy in their classroom, and then decided to make windmills. They planned out their designs, constructed windmills, and then evaluated the windmills outside.
Everyone should try to save fossil fuels and use natural resources like wind to generate power!

Designing and Making Levers
First Class were learning all about levers. They learned that when you push or pull one part of the lever, the opposite side will move too. They discovered that door handles and seesaws are levers too! The children made their own levers by making the dog wag its tail.

Designing and Making Instruments
Senior Infants designed and made different types of instruments: Chinese drums, shakers, castanets and rain sticks. They used various materials including plastic cups, plastic bottles, paper plates, string, beads, rice and bottle tops. They then put them together and decorated them.
Designing and Making Boats
First Class were learning about floating and sinking. They wanted to design and construct boats that would be able to float. They all used play dough to make the boats. They tested the boats when they designed them. They realised that the base of the boat needed to be flat and thin. They really enjoyed constructing their boats.
Designing and Making Anemometers
Fourth Class were learning about different instruments that we use to measure weather. Anemometers measure wind speed. They used various materials such as plastic cups and cardboard to make their instrument. Then they experimented with them outside on a windy day. They had great fun!
